His controversial poem, Moment of Silence, circulated the internet a year after September 11th, 2001. It's time to read it again ...

A MOMENT OF SILENCE, BEFORE I START THIS POEM

Before I start this poem, I'd like to ask you to join me
In a moment of silence
In honor of those who died in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon last September 11th.
I would also like to ask you
To offer up a moment of silence
For all of those who have been harassed, imprisoned, disappeared, tortured, raped, or killed in retaliation for those strikes,
For the victims in both Afghanistan and the U.S.

And if I could just add one more thing...
A full day of silence
For the tens of thousands of Palestinians who have died at the hands of U.S.-backed Israeli forces over decades of occupation.
Six months of silence for the million and-a-half Iraqi people, mostly children, who have died of malnourishment or starvation as a result of an 11-year U.S. embargo against the country.

Before I begin this poem,
Two months of silence for the Blacks under Apartheid in South Africa,
Where homeland security made them aliens in their own country.
Nine months of silence for the dead in Hiroshima and Nagasaki,
Where death rained down and peeled back every layer of concrete, steel, earth and skin
And the survivors went on as if alive.
A year of silence for the millions of dead in Vietnam - a people, not a war - for those who know a thing or two about the scent of burning fuel, their relatives' bones buried in it, their babies born of it.
A year of silence for the dead in Cambodia and Laos, victims of a secret war ... ssssshhhhh.... Say nothing ... we don't want them to learn that they are dead.
Two months of silence for the decades of dead in Colombia,
Whose names, like the corpses they once represented, have piled up and slipped off our tongues.

Before I begin this poem.
An hour of silence for El Salvador ...
An afternoon of silence for Nicaragua ...
Two days of silence for the Guatemaltecos ...
None of whom ever knew a moment of peace in their living years.
45 seconds of silence for the 45 dead at Acteal, Chiapas
25 years of silence for the hundred million Africans who found their graves far deeper in the ocean than any building could poke into the sky.
There will be no DNA testing or dental records to identify their remains.
And for those who were strung and swung from the heights of sycamore trees in the south, the north, the east, and the west...

100 years of silence...
For the hundreds of millions of indigenous peoples from this half of right here,
Whose land and lives were stolen,
In postcard-perfect plots like Pine Ridge, Wounded Knee, Sand Creek, Fallen Timbers, or the Trail of Tears.
Names now reduced to innocuous magnetic poetry on the refrigerator of our consciousness ...

So you want a moment of silence?
And we are all left speechless
Our tongues snatched from our mouths
Our eyes stapled shut
A moment of silence
And the poets have all been laid to rest
The drums disintegrating into dust.

Before I begin this poem,
You want a moment of silence
You mourn now as if the world will never be the same
And the rest of us hope to hell it won't be.
Not like it always has been.

Because this is not a 9/11 poem.
This is a 9/10 poem,
It is a 9/9 poem,
9/8 poem,
A 9/7 poem
This is a 1492 poem.

This is a poem about what causes poems like this to be written.
And if this is a 9/11 poem, then:
This is a September 11th poem for Chile, 1971.
This is a September 12th poem for Steven Biko in South Africa, 1977.
This is a September 13th poem for the brothers at Attica Prison, New York, 1971.
This is a September 14th poem for Somalia, 1992.
This is a poem for every date that falls to the ground in ashes
This is a poem for the 110 stories that were never told
The 110 stories that history chose not to write in textbooks
The 110 stories that CNN, BBC, The New York Times, and Newsweek ignored.
This is a poem for interrupting this program.

And still you want a moment of silence for your dead?
We could give you lifetimes of empty:
The unmarked graves
The lost languages
The uprooted trees and histories
The dead stares on the faces of nameless children
Before I start this poem we could be silent forever
Or just long enough to hunger,
For the dust to bury us
And you would still ask us
For more of our silence.

If you want a moment of silence
Then stop the oil pumps
Turn off the engines and the televisions
Sink the cruise ships
Crash the stock markets
Unplug the marquee lights,
Delete the instant messages,
Derail the trains, the light rail transit.

If you want a moment of silence, put a brick through the window of Taco Bell,
And pay the workers for wages lost.
Tear down the liquor stores,
The townhouses, the White Houses, the jailhouses, the Penthouses and the Playboys.

If you want a moment of silence,
Then take it
On Super Bowl Sunday,
The Fourth of July
During Dayton's 13 hour sale
Or the next time your white guilt fills the room where my beautiful people have gathered.

You want a moment of silence
Then take it NOW,
Before this poem begins.
Here, in the echo of my voice,
In the pause between goosesteps of the second hand,
In the space between bodies in embrace,
Here is your silence.
Take it.
But take it all...Don't cut in line.
Let your silence begin at the beginning of crime. But we,
Tonight we will keep right on singing...For our dead.

DIY?

If you want to use the stable World Tweets map to create the ENOUGH map, you can use:

Change the search term to your liking. If you set the height to 100%, the width defaults to 350px. So do set the height at what you want and leave width empty to default to 100% space available in its container.

Operation Enough

For Operation Enough I cloned the World Tweet pipe because we may want to experiment with its functional settings and I want to limit unintentional side-effects to maps already running the pipe elsewhere. It is unstable.

As the map has a prominent place in the design, and the additional header and yahoo footer just break it, and Yahoo already has credit in the right corner of the map, I have removed the header and yahoo footer message.

And then you get the results as above.

Zwadke Cornelisznoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409821231876738972.post-53520188950273123652011-05-31T07:56:00.000-07:002011-05-31T07:57:26.034-07:002011-05-31T07:57:26.034-07:00Removing the pipe header and "Powered by Y! Pipes" footer noticeWhen you output the results of your Yahoo Pipe somewhere, what you publish is called a "Badge". There is only one problem with using the "Badge" option. Yahoo places the name of the pipe as a header above the badge and a backlink to their site and the footer text: "Powered by Y! Pipes" just underneath it.

In some cases that just breaks the design of the site.

So how do you remove the header and that "Powered By Y! Pipes" footer from your Yahoo Pipes Badge?

Simply add this to your CSS stylesheet or XML template:

/* Yahoo! Pipes */
/* controls the footer */
div.pipesstyle div.ybf {
height: 0px;
}
/* controls the footer text in the pipe */
div.pipesstyle div.ybad {
display: none;
height: 0px;
}
/* controls the pipes logo in the footer */
div.pipesstyle a.yba {
display: none;
height: 0px;
}

And in the widget, badge, or page, surround the the javascript code of the badge with this div:

Zwadke Cornelisznoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409821231876738972.post-29002608669547039272011-05-30T09:07:00.000-07:002011-05-30T11:48:11.993-07:002011-05-30T11:48:11.993-07:00Powerful beings in a predatorial multiverse

The internet is, just like analog realms, a predatorial multiverse, just without women and children. Women don't exist and children are FBI agents, of course. I may not be a moral fag (bitch, if you like), I do use a single, simple warrior rule:

Do unto others as you choose to do because you're going to do it anyway. However, choose to do that which will bring about the greatest mutual benefit and welfare for all concerned.

From The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth: My Story of Unlearning:

The Jargon File shows how "geek" evolved from an insult into a term of endearment used by these "losers" and "nerds." Over time, this common ground provided the setting for the creation of a new culture. With each year, geek culture becomes more visible, more defined, and more influential.

Geek culture was formed in critical opposition to mainstream social culture and is defined through rapidly expanding and evolving technologies. Today's geeks are no longer forced onto the fringe of mainstream culture but have developed a critical perspective and stay on the fringe by choice. A self-actualized geek culture is, by definition, an act of critique and protest.

Geek culture has grown into a deep-rooted critical mentality and willingness to challenge, confront, and build alternatives to deep-rooted social, educational, political and economic institutions.

Also important to geek culture is an obsession with skill, creativity, and an infatuation with new technology. In this way, geek culture couples a critical nature with the tools and the mentality needed to execute real change.

Geek culture is complex. It is enigmatic. It is powerful.

VERY POWERFUL

Zwadke Cornelisznoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409821231876738972.post-36725099003021303692011-05-30T08:33:00.000-07:002011-05-30T11:49:27.396-07:002011-05-30T11:49:27.396-07:00Who is mentally ill and why?From Réforme de la Psychiatrie: une déraison d’Etat (loosely translated)

Since joining the Department of the Interior, Nicolas Sarkozy has continued to implement his obsession: to treat mentally ill offenders. In February 2007, under pressure from the mobilisation of professional associations of families and users of psychiatry, he withdrew this provision of the Act for Prevention of Delinquency. By promising that there would be ....

He did this in his speech, delivered December 2, 2008 at the Erasmus Hospital Antony as President of the Republic. The author of The Praise of Folly, that gave its name to the psychiatric facility, was turning in his grave."The mentally ill are, according to the President, potentially dangerous, even criminal."

Since that speech, the great confinement began. Increasing isolation rooms, stone walls, raising fences, installation of cameras in hospitals and in some services! A budget of 70 million has been immediately released only to the safety equipment.The means for professional caregivers, to improve conditions and health care are still on hold.

And who is going to decide who is "mentally ill" and who is not? So far I have not been terribly impressed by "authorities" ...

Will "psychiatrists", with a looong history of caring more for their status than their "patients", decide? Or will government officials decide?

I can easily imagine the following train of thought in government:

Most of the perspectives of hackers, activists and now hacktivists are interfering with our plans. They're undermining our "natural" authority. We could name these perspectives "unintelligent" ...

Hmmmm. I think that if we label "freethinkers" as "mentally ill", we might just clean up all of the the opposition to our continued exploitations, in a single big sweep ...

Let's work together with the psychiatrists.

Plus that we need to fill all those rooms we have just spent on making "safe" in these hospitals. Accountability is a rare thing among politicians, but we can be held accountable! See! We invest taxpayers money on important community services.

Zwadke Cornelisznoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409821231876738972.post-64046071149526055232011-05-30T07:31:00.000-07:002011-05-30T07:38:08.479-07:002011-05-30T07:38:08.479-07:00Gabes Battle

Zwadke Cornelisznoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409821231876738972.post-46458247886629665882011-05-30T04:05:00.000-07:002011-05-30T04:13:27.873-07:002011-05-30T04:13:27.873-07:00Twitter SockpuppetThis pipe retweets the tweets in a twitter search: your+search+terms.
